Status of the Dream

Here's the dream in it's current state. The land we bought 10 years ago is almost paid off now. Selling that should be enough for the boat we want. I will provide more of my thoughts on the specific boat in a later posting. Purchase of the boat is still five to six years away. We are currently evaluating investments in other real estate to ensure we have the monthly income necessary to have financial freedom combined with the freedom of time.

We would like to travel sooner but commitments to our children and my job in the Virginia Army National Guard will keep us here for the next five to six years. Neal was accepted in the Appomatox Regional Governor's School and Cole is in a program for gifted children and hopes to attend one of the Governor's schools as well. They have been given a gift and Allison and I feel it is important for them to remain here to fully take advantage of excellent educational opportunities.

Our children are 17 and 13. Both are doing well in school and are good kids. Allison and I have been extremely fortunate in so many ways.

Once we have the boat, we plan on cruising the Chesapeake Bay for a few months and then either go north or south along the Atlantic coast of the US. Our direction of travel will depend on the time of year. When we are comfortable with our ability to safely manage the boat, we will head to Florida to spend some time in the islands. Perhaps as far as the Virgin Islands.

We would like to spend extended time in Europe on our boat. I was a history major at the University and Allison was a closet art history major. So, Europe it definitely on our list of places to go.

Where it begins...

I have always dreamed of seeing new places. I was the only 10 year old I knew that read National Geographic and Smithsonian magazines and "Think and Grow Rich" to figure out how to pay for it all. After a couple of decades of service to my county, I am now focusing on the next chapter.
